I met women's health campaigners from Endometriosis UK & Fair Treatment for the Women of Wales (FTWW) today to discuss "the economic and human costs" women who experience endometriosis face daily within Wales, an area of great concern as a now retired surgeon:
- Shockingly, Wales's got Britain's poorest diagnoses times though – averaging at 9 years 11 months.
- Cwm Taf Morgannwg Health Board had 48.6% facing 26 week waits before getting an appointment given only one nurse per 14,760, currently constituting a patchy postcode lottery of specialist staff.
- However, campaigners call for an average diagnosis target to hit under 12 months by 2030 - ending experiences of frustration given symptoms still manifest in women's quotidian lives.
- Equally, we know more must happen helping make employment work better because sufferers say they don't feel fully supported seeking reasonable adjustments.
