Dr Hussain demands answers about closure of private schools:
Conservative colleagues justifiably critically commented on Rachel Reeves's increase in VAT on private schools stymieing all ambition many middle-class parents have on exercising their legitimate choice regarding education on offer. I've just demanded urgent answers about Welsh Government's plans over supporting state schools, and parents living locally following news that two of our best independent institutions consider closure – Porthcawl's St. Clare's & Swansea's Oakleigh House. It's not hypothetical. We're losing these two private providers at a time that state schools are already largely underperforming. I'm largely worried we're sleepwalking over classroom crises because Labour's poor policy leaves overstretched state schools who cannot cope.
