I introduced Dan Biddle, who was, at age 26, the most injured surviving person of 7/7, as a keynote speaker during Welsh Conservative Conference, speaking so movingly on experiences as a disabled person navigating modern Britain. I listened to him advocating accessibility check-lists making more workplaces employee-friendly, at application stage, which would give greater equality of opportunities.
Conference, it now gives me great pleasure to introduce our next speaker, someone who knows more than most how to deal with inequalities, how to deal with adversity and how to overcome all obstacles; Daniel Biddle.
Daniel is truly inspirational.
On the morning of the 7th July 2005 Daniel was stood next to Mohammad Sidique Khan when Khan detonated a suicide vest on the Edgware Road tube train.
How he survived that ordeal is nothing short of a miracle, but he lost both his legs, an eye as well as the hearing in one ear.
Despite this and crippling PTSD, Daniel was determined to keep on working, but struggled with artificial barriers to employment.
He has now become a champion for disability rights and I for one am looking forward to hearing from him.
