I'm strongly supporting International Nursing Day backed by Royal College of Nursing: where we rightly recognise many hard-working, highly-skilled & safety-critical professionals delivering clinical care within Wales's valued NHS. It's important that their distinctive contribution receives recognition, knowing how 30+ different nursing roles support services. I know first-hand what difference good hospital nurses make as a (now-retired) orthopaedic surgeon with decades of experience, and as an Assembly Member in my first term voting cross-party for Nurse Staffing Levels Act 2016 where we made legislative changes protecting patients of all ages. Really, it is simple: our hospitals couldn't function at all without their invaluable input – who's hands heal, comfort & support us during difficulties. I thank them today, and always ever-after!
